Celebrate the 2012 Emmy Awards with a Downton Abbey Berry Meringue Pudding

Remember how you gasped when Mrs. Patmore, with her failing eyesight, proudly reaches for the sugar bowl to top off Sir Anthony Strallans favorite dessert, Raspberry Meringue Pudding, and instead sprinkles the dish with heaping tablespoons of salt? Yeah. We do, too. Those simple moments of shocking splendor are what makes Downton Abbey a notable favorite in this years Emmy Award Nominations. So, why not bring some of the fun of Downton Abbey home by throwing an Emmy party and making your own Berry Meringue Pudding (sans the salt!). Heres a simple recipe that will have you feeling like youre enjoying an elegant dessert with the Granthams in no time at all.

Berry Pudding Pavlova

4 egg whites
1 1/4 cups white sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon lemon juice
2 teaspoons cornstarch

2 cups lemon curd
2 cups heavy cream beaten until fluffy with 1/4 cup powdered sugar
2 cups fresh raspberries (or a frozen triple berry mixture) heated together with 1/2 cup sugar

Pre-heat oven to 300 degrees. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

In a stand mixer, beat egg whites until stiff and shinybe careful to not overbeat them, or theyll dry out!

Add in the sugar, 1 tablespoon at a time, beating until thick and glossy. Gently fold in vanilla, lemon juice and cornstarch.

Spoon mixture into four small circles, creating a rim with a well in the center of each pavlova.

Bake for 35 minutes, remove from oven, and cool on a wire rack.

Spoon lemon curd into the center of each pavlova, top with sweetened whipped cream and warm berries. Serve immediately and enjoy!

Its packed with flavor and depth thanks to the fresh-squeezed orange juice and orange zest. Sweet and fizzy, its just the thing to get your Emmy party started.

Orange Gin Fizz

2 ounces gin
2 ounces fresh-squeezed orange juice
1 tablespoon sugar
2 x 4 section of orange zest
soda water
orange slices for garnish

In an ice-filled shaker, combine the gin, orange juice, and sugar, and shake vigorously. Pour into a collins glass over ice. Top off with soda water, and add a slice of orange and a twist of zest.
