Robots & Chick Peas

Last week my son turned three, THREE! Anyway, he wanted a robot party and I wanted simple. I saw these adorable tin can robots and decided I must make them, but we dont use a lot of tin cans, certainly not enough to make party favors. I didnt like the idea of buying 15 cans of food and tossing it, so I went to the store and searched for what we could possibly use (at least some of) and it hit me. Chick peas! How perfect! I could roast them for the party that way there is an addicting and healthy snack for everyone and Ive got my robots! Keep reading for how to turn chick peas into potato chip alternatives and use your old cans for adorable toys

Roasted Chick Peas

Make at least 2 cans of chick peas empty, drain and rinse and remove all the loose skin

olive oil

salt or seasoned salt

Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Spray cooking sheet(s) with cooking spray. Pour the chick peas onto the sheet and drizzle with olive oil and toss to mix. Cook for 20 minutes, toss. Cook for another 20 minutes or until chick peas are crunchy all the way through. Add your favorite seasoning (since I was feeding kids I just used seas salt), garlic, parsley, season salt anything that sounds delish!

Tin Can Robots

Remove paper, rinse and dry can(s)

duct tape

small magnets

nuts, bolts, wing nuts, washers

Wrap the top of the can with duct tape to cover the sharp edge. Attach 2 hexagon bolts to magnets for eyes, a hexagon bolt for nose, washer for mouth and wing nuts for ears. Or find your own silly combination. Now you have a robot Mr Potato Head!
